Personally I think the answer can only be 'yes'. At the moment it seems to me that as an HR community we know we have some data - but we are unsure what to do with it.
To begin with, I would suggest that we need to ensure we have usable data - information that is relevant and correct. This means really looking at our systems and ensuring they are giving us what we want. Then, we need people that can present that data back to us telling us a great story. This is a specific competency and is not something all HR people have. That's fine - they have other skills and knowledge, but let's make sure we invest in people within HR that can bring that knowledge to the table.
Yes, people are our most valuable investment (look at the P&L to prove that), so let's make sure we are getting the best return for that investment. Create roles that help us achieve this.
